Types of curtains

Curtains are a fundamental element for our home since they not only protect us from excess sunlight but also allow us to create comfortable and stylish environments; adjust the point of privacy and intimacy that we need, and reduce energy consumption in air conditioning.

There is a wide variety of models of curtains, with different types of fabrics, designs, colors, measurements, sliding systems, ways of holding … that make them adapt to any room, environment, and budget.

When it comes to installing curtains, all kinds of doubts always arise. There are several things to keep in mind. First of all, know what its function will be within the room. A curtain is not the same for a kitchen, which is usually an area that needs to be well lit, and that can easily get dirty by grease and water; then curtains for a bedroom, where the main objective is to guarantee rest and privacy. Other factors to take into account are, for example, the orientation of the rooms, the climate, the shape and size of the window, the profile of the people who live in the house, their tastes and needs, etc.

To help you with your choice we have made a compilation of the main formats of curtains and blinds that exist in the market:

Classic or conventionalTypes of curtains

They are the curtains of a lifetime and that never go out of style. They offer a wide variety of possibilities and adapt to any space. There are all kinds of confections: smooth, gathered, with pleats, eyelets, are villas, clips, tables, the perfect wave, etc. and they can be installed with various types of opening systems: bars, rails (manual or motorized), tensioner, etc.

Within this category, we would like to mention the curtains. A type of curtain whose function is purely decorative, and unlike other traditional curtains, they do not allow us to preserve privacy and regulate the entry of light into space. It is for this reason that on many occasions they are usually complemented with other curtains.

Folding blindsTypes of curtains

The folding blinds (also known as Roman blinds) are curtains with intermediate rods that fold in a regular and uniform way as we pull a side chain. Forming so many folds, normally between 20 and 30 cm, depending on their height. Their straight and modern lines produce a very attractive effect and by taking up less space, they make them a suitable solution for rooms with few square meters.

In the case of lacking rods, the fabric drape is more natural, irregular, and carefree, giving a very elegant and welcoming touch to our home. In this case, they are called packet blinds.

Roller blindsTypes of curtains

It is a type of curtain that is becoming increasingly popular, both in residential and commercial spaces, thanks to the advantages it presents. It is a curtain that is rolled or unrolled through a tube using a manual or motorized mechanism.

They are very easy to install and take up very little window space once collected. They allow a great diversity of fabrics and a degree of transparency that makes them resistant and appropriate for any space and environment.

Within the roller blinds, highlight the night and day blinds. They are double-layer blinds that have translucent and opaque horizontal bands that, when the lateral rope is stretched, allows to regulate the entry of light as well as the desired privacy for each occasion.

Japanese panelsTypes of curtains

They are independent fabric panels that slide from side to side through parallel rails. With a linear and minimalist aesthetic, ideal for large windows and for separating environments within the same space. They are very easy to install and maintain, and also allow a combination of designs between panels, providing innumerable decorative possibilities.

VenetianTypes of curtains

It is a type of blind formed by slats, normally between 16 and 50 mm thick and made of aluminum, wood or PVC, which are raised or lowered by means of cords and are folded or extended thanks to rods. In this way, we can regulate that more or less light enters the house according to the needs of the moment. They are ideal for medium-sized windows and come in a wide range of colors and finishes.

VerticalTypes of curtains

In this case, they are composed of vertical slats, and as in the previous case, thanks to the opening and closing mechanism, it allows us to adjust the entry of light and privacy, and at the same time, they exercise an important aesthetic function. Like the Japanese panels, its collection of slats can be central, on both sides or on one side.

It is a type of blind that has always been associated with offices, but they are also very suitable in homes. Mainly in large spaces and in large windows, as well as in separate spaces. The slats usually measure between 89 and 127 mm and are manufactured with the latest generation fabrics (PVC, polyester, fibers, etc.) being very resistant and extremely durable.

PleatedTypes of curtains

They are curtains where the fabric is made in the shape of an accordion (with folds between 20 and 30 mm wide) and which have guides to lower and raise it. Like Venetians, they are a type of very narrow curtains with little collection space that allow them to adapt to almost any size and shape of the window providing soft and pleasant light.
