Tips and Tricks For Reducing Your Carbon Footprint

Michelle Hundley March 07, 2019 Tips Leave a Comment

People consume a lot of energy and natural resources on a daily basis, but when was the last time you stopped to think about how you can reduce your carbon footprint? Something as simple as taking more public transportation or biking to work can make a huge difference, and none of these activities will require you to turn your life upside down in any way, shape or form.

Why purchase fast fashion when you can buy fewer clothes that are of higher quality and will thus last you longer? Consider eating less meat than you currently do, start using solar energy, and of course, you need to learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle properly.

Get homeowner solar panels

Why not start using a renewable energy source in order to cut back on your energy bill and to safeguard natural resources? Solar panels may be costly to begin with, but you will soon see a return on your investment. Solar energy is very easy for you to adopt, as companies such as Going Solar can set everything up for you in a timely and efficient manner.

Use public transportation more often

Rather than driving to work every day, why not take more public transportation? Most of the time it is the cheaper alternative for you when considering gas prices, and you are also reducing your carbon footprint in the process.

If you are close enough, you should even consider taking your bike or walking, so that you can improve your health in the process.

Don’t buy fast fashion

You need to re-think fast-fashion. This refers to the cheap clothes that you purchase, which you often times don’t even wear that often or they break easily. The reason they are so cheap in the first place is due to the cheap labor that made them.

The alternative is to purchase fewer items that are of higher quality, and that you know you will wear for long periods of time. At the end of the day, fashion is cyclical anyway, and you can find more unique pieces if you make a point of vintage shopping or going thrifting.

Eat less meat

Cutting back on the amount of meat that you eat will furthermore benefit the environment, and reduce scarcity in this area. Not to mention, eating too much isn’t good for your health, either. Of course, you do not have to go vegan, but being more mindful and heavily reducing your diet to one that’s plant-based is the best for the environment.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

The 3 R’s of reduce, reuse and recycle are some of the most important steps you can take when it comes to living a more sustainable life. Think of these as the golden role for what you should do in order to help the environment. Plus, this advice can apply to everything from the food that you eat, to the clothes that you purchase, and even to the type of furniture that you have within your home.

Learning how to be more environmentally friendly is something that will not only impact your life but those around you. Think of it this way, what type of world and environment would you want your loved ones to grow up in? The steps that you can take to reduce your carbon footprint are easy, and they will make a huge difference in your life and those around you. Of course, the planet will also be the one that benefits the most at the end of the day.
