Stress-Free Moving

Moving home is stressful, there’s no doubt about it. It is said to be the third most stressful life event after bereavement and divorce. However, there are ways you can make this experience a little less harrowing than it could be, and here’s how:

Give Yourself Plenty of Time

Sometimes you just have to accept that time is not something you can control. Leaving things until last minute and trying to move quickly is more stressful, so if you know it’s coming – start preparing early. Ideally, you’ll need 8-12 weeks to give yourself the best possible amount of time in which to not get overly stressed out.

Be Organized

The more organised you are, the more you’ll feel in control. Make lists of things to do and when they need to be done by – giving yourself ample time to do what needs to be done. Having a good plan will help things to run a lot smoother.

De-clutter

This is the perfect opportunity to get rid of all that surplus stuff we accumulate over the years. This will lessen the amount that needs to be boxed up too. Packings things you later dump is a waste of energy. Hire a skip and be ruthless. For Skip Hire Swansea, visit http://pendragoncarmarthenshire.co.uk/

Don’t go it alone

Many of us are not great at asking for help but doing it alone will be tough. Anyone that’s ever moved will appreciate how tough, so shouldn’t mind giving up a few hours to help you out. Ask family and friends if they can spare a couple of hours. If you’re moving out of the area, this is a good chance to spend some time together before you move.

Be kind to yourself

It’s easy to get so caught up in the move that you don’t get enough sleep, don’t take regular breaks and eat junk food to avoid the time spent cooking. Remember to take time out from the hassles, plan a couple of special evenings and treat the kids to a day out or treat. Moving stress can be unsettling for children. Keep eating a balanced diet and get enough sleep. Getting run down won’t help anyone.

Accept what you can’t control

Even the most organised move will experience bumps in the road. Remain flexible and unfazed as you navigate any unexpected problems along the way. Allowing yourself plenty of time is useful for dealing with set-backs and issues. You might need to adjust your carefully planned out schedule, but just breathe and smile. Having a back-up plan is also a good idea in case things happen like the removal company pulls out, for example.

Being uprooted

If you can accept that things will feel weird for a while and you will feel like your life has been flipped upside down, you’ll cope better with the upheaval. Don’t be too hard on yourself and give yourself time to settle into your home. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
